Nutrition-Based Workplace Wellness Challenges Guide

March 26, 20243 min read

Good food is the foundation of genuine happiness.” – Auguste Escoffier

As we wrap up National Nutrition Month, I'm excited to share some innovative and effective strategies for promoting healthy eating habits among your workforce through nutrition-based workplace wellness challenges.

1. Daily Fruit and Vegetable Challenge:

Vegetable Garden

Encourage your employees to boost their intake of fruits and vegetables by setting a daily serving goal. Provide them with a tracking chart to monitor their progress and offer incentives or rewards for consistently adhering to the recommended servings. You can also use resources like the Life Force Wellness app to track servings of fruits and veggies.

2. Sugar Detox Challenge:

Focus on reducing added sugars in the diet. Challenge employees to reduce sugary drinks, snacks, and desserts for a specific time frame. Provide information on hidden sugars in common foods. Life Force Wellness offers a 30-day sugar detox program.

3. Hydration Challenge:

Promote regular water consumption by encouraging employees to meet a daily water intake target. Provide refillable water bottles as incentives and set up water stations around the workplace for easy access.

4. Meal Prep Challenge:

Empower employees to prepare healthy meals for the week ahead by offering resources on meal planning, recipes, and meal prep tips. Encourage them to share success stories and recipes with their colleagues.

5. Healthy Snack Swap:

Encourage employees to replace their usual snacks with healthier options. Provide a list of nutritious snacks and challenge them to choose one each day for a set period. Participants can share their snack choices and recipes with each other.

6. Portion Control Challenge:

Educate employees on proper portion sizes and mindful eating practices. Provide visual aids and tools to help them gauge serving sizes and encourage mindful eating habits such as eating slowly and paying attention to hunger cues. We teach hand portions for quick and easy measurements.

7. Nutrition Education Sessions:

Host informative sessions or workshops on nutrition-related topics such as healthy eating habits, meal planning, and reading food labels. Invite nutritionists or dietitians to share their expertise and provide employees with resources for reference. We offer a wide range of nutrition-based workshops perfect for a lunch and learn event.

8. Healthy Recipe Contest:

Engage employees by encouraging them to submit their favorite healthy recipes. Organize a cooking competition where employees can showcase their culinary skills. Offer prizes or recognition for the most creative and nutritious recipes. Collect all the recipes, create a company cookbook, and share it with all employees and new hires.

9. Whole Foods Challenge:

Encourage employees to consume more whole, unprocessed foods. Challenge them to create meals using minimally processed ingredients and share their creations with the rest of the group.

10. Vegetarian/Vegan Challenge:

Challenge employees to adopt a vegetarian or vegan diet for a set period. Provide resources on plant-based nutrition and share recipes to make the transition easier. Personally, I like Meat-Free Mondays!

11. BONUS - Nutrition Tracking Challenge:

Encourage employees to track their food intake using apps like the Life Force Wellness app or journals. Provide guidance on tracking calories, macronutrients, and other nutritional information. Offer support and accountability through group discussions or check-ins.

By implementing these nutrition-based workplace wellness challenges, you will not only promote healthier eating habits among your employees but also foster a sense of community and support as they work towards common wellness goals. Investing in your employees' well-being not only improves their health but also enhances productivity, morale, and overall company success.
